Support bears like Suzie
Before joining the Islamabad Marghazar zoo, 17-year-old Suzie suffered frequent torture at the hands of her merciless captor. Made to feel small and worthless, this once magnificent giant was brought to her knees to serve as entertainment for spectating crowds.
Commonly, dancing bears like Suzie are trained whilst they’re still cubs, so their misery is almost instant. First, they are made defenseless and have their teeth filed down or knocked out with a hammer. Then, their claws are extracted to prevent them from retaliating or attacking spectators.
Hoping that the Islamabad Marghazar zoo would be the salvation she longed for, Suzie looked forward to a fresh start away from the misery she had endured. Sadly, the reality couldn’t have been more different. Confined to an enclosure too small for an adult bear, with hardly enough stimulation and enrichment from her keepers, Suzie’s dream of a happy life was starting to fade away.
Sadly, there are hundreds of bears just like Suzie still living in cruel captivity. Will you help to rescue more bears, allowing us to provide them with lifelong care and homes for life at our sanctuaries?
- £20 could help us provide a rescued bear with lifesaving food
- £30 could help fund an emergency rescue to free bears like Suzie from cruel captivity
- £50 could help our rescue team perform lifesaving treatment during a rescue
- £150 could help provide the cages and the staff needed to perform an urgent rescue mission.
Thanks to your support, we were able to rescue Suzie, 30 other animals and provide her with a new bear appropriate home at the Al Ma’wa nature and wildlife sanctuary – a partnership sanctuary between the Princess Alia Foundation, and FOUR PAWS in Jordan. Now Suzie can finally have the fresh start she deserves and live a happy, enriched life.
On behalf of the animals, the FOUR PAWS team would like to thank you!
